Are Your Basic Skills Up to Snuff?

In this time of troubled economies and job uncertainty, we all need to make ourselves as attractive to employers as possible.  One way to do this is to by returning to get some extra training to do additional jobs, move to a new level of certification, or even swapping careers.

However, this often requires a shift back into ’student’ mode and many of us adults are out of practice with this side of ourselves.  Whether you are considering a new college degree, looking for additional training, or thinking of trying for your GED, you need to be sure you have the tools to take advantage of the training you’re seeking.  There’s nothing more frustrating and embarrassing than to set your mind on a goal like that and then find that you cannot succeed because your basic academic skills are rusty or worse.

The Job Training Readiness Center offers some quick assessments to help you decide if you are ready to try that training or program that you are interested in.  Check your reading skills at the Check Up Center by trying the Quick and Easy Reading Test.  It’s completely free of charge and easy to use.  If you can read the entire page of text, then your reading skills are probably up to nearly any challenge.  You can check on your math skills by visiting the Quick and Easy Math Quizlet.  Try the problems and see how well you score.
